Domestic worker cost calculator 2026 (housekeepers and carers)

Domestic work simulation

What a housekeeper or carer costs and what the worker takes home

The tool estimates the monthly and annual cost of domestic work to the employer and the worker’s net pay, based on the type of employment (live-in or live-out), the classification level, the weekly hours and the agreed pay, compared with the minimum set by the national collective agreement. The calculation runs in your browser and the result is always visible. The data you enter are neither sent nor stored unless you request the report, in which case they are kept for 12 months. The report is sent to the address you provide. Subscribing to the newsletter is optional.

The online calculation is an estimate. The optional PDF report adds the tables from gross to net pay, of the monthly cost and of contributions, the assumptions, the warnings and the legal references.

How the calculation works

Minimum pay and monthly cost

Minimums are those of the national collective agreement for domestic work signed on 28 October 2025, effective 1 January 2026 under the agreement of 11 February 2026. The monthly cost includes pay, contributions, the accrual for the 13th month and severance pay (TFR).

Contributions

2026 INPS contributions follow the hourly pay bands of INPS circular no. 9 of 3 February 2026, including the worker’s share; the Cas.sa.colf contribution of €0.06 per hour is added, of which €0.04 is paid by the employer.

The worker’s net pay

Net pay is that of an ordinary month, without the 13th month: the worker’s contributions are deducted from gross pay. Board and lodging for live-in workers are valued at the conventional amounts set by the agreement.

Assumptions and limits

Deduction of contributions

Contributions paid by the employer are deductible from income up to €1,549.37 (art. 10(1)(e) TUIR). The tool calculates the saving at the marginal rate entered by the user; the limit applies per taxpayer, not per worker, and the cash basis applies.

What the calculation does not consider

Overtime and public holidays worked, allowances that are not entered and pay above the minimum, if not entered, are not included. Some assumptions are declared in the tool and still to be checked against the official text, including allowances for certain levels and special cases.

How to read the result

The result shows the cost per paid hour (conventional), which is useful to compare different schedules and types of employment. Warnings flag when the pay entered is below the minimum or outside plausible values.

Notice and sources

This is an indicative simulation based on general information. It does not replace an assessment of the specific case: minimums, contributions and allowances must be checked against the text of the collective agreement, INPS communications and the employment records.
